“Our collaboration with the University of Alabama began in 2019. We were well aware of our weaknesses and threats in our center. We knew that pediatric care had numbers that, if you compared them with other centers in other parts of the world, we were far behind. What worried us most was the mortality rate in adolescence of all our patients. Knowing that we would have to improve it made us ask ourselves how we could improve all of this. We didn’t have that answer, but it was somehow carried out and guided through the collaborative work we had with the University of Alabama. I can say that the change is absolutely remarkable. And I can say that our [center] population has decreased considerable their admissions, increased their lung function, increased nutritional parameters, and we have decreased mortality rates. Our patients are the main witnesses of improvement.”
